Procedure for challenging library materials
Procedure For Request For Reconsideration
To initiate a request for reconsideration, patrons must do the following:
- A Request for Consideration of Library Materials must be completed. This form is reviewed by the Library Director to determine whether the item should remain or be removed from the collection. The Library Director will examine the material as well as critical reviews of the material.
- The Library Director will communicate his/her decision to the patron who initiated the request.
- Patrons who do not accept the Library Director's decision may appeal to the Library Trustees.
- The Library Director will communicate the final decision within thirty days to the patron who initiated the request.
Procedure for Challenge of Library Materials for Minors
Any parent or guardian of a minor within the Rich Hill Library District may dispute or challenge the library's age-appropriate designation affixed to any presentation, event, material, or display in the library. The results of any such dispute or challenge shall be disclosed to the public and published on the Rich Hill Memorial Library’s website.
Library Displays
No age-inappropriate materials in any form, as defined in the library's collection development policy, shall be displayed in the library in areas designated by the library as containing materials predominantly for minors.
Age Appropriate Designations
No event or presentation shall be held at the Rich Hill Memorial Library without an age-appropriate designation affixed to any publication, website or advertisement for such event or presentation.
